Happy Birthday Sam!
Sam Mead turned 16 this week 😉
YES folks OMG alright.
I hope it was a memorable birthday benchmark for you Sam.
You’re my major inspiration and you deserve so much more.
Justice would be a good start 🙂
Love you more than …
Last year’s cake was a doozy but this year, despite the milestone of turning 16, my time was very limited, more than usual, yeah right, if that can be even possible, but yes it was.
I thought I had it all worked out on recollection following last year’s birthday event but no, by this year the theme had changed.
Oh yes, the car and a driver’s licence is still in the forefront of most teenagers’ minds but the weight of the past few months has taken its toll.

Birthday Cake Toppers
So, coming up with cake topper ideas started out a little bit of a challenge with time, or should I say, no time, a major factor this year.
Good old eBay came to my rescue.
I searched up edible icing and came across edible icing sheets. Scrolling down eBay’s never ending list of items I came across blank edible icing sheets. Great! Found an image, thank you Google and Sons of Anarchy, edited it with text and emailed it off to my eBay Seller. In less than a week my A4 size edible Sons of Anarchy icing image arrived printed in edible ink.
But, that wasn’t enough.
I really wanted to add a bit more effort to show “how much I get you Sam”.
Relating to the theme, I decided to google images of guns. I’d found an edible gun and bullets on Ebay also. They looked fantastic but I really needed to keep my budget tight and it was going to take a little longer to deliver than I anticipated.
Pencil sketching a fairly basic modern hand gun I set to work with modelling one from marzipan. Sam loves marzipan. I even included details of screws, two barrels, hand grip ripples and texture BUT I was over optomistic on the detail staying in tact once I poured melted cholocate over my hand gun model. grrr
So, here it is…
Letting the fact go that my gun was no longer precise or “perfect” or that I wanted to make a larger cake into the shape of a table or could have arched the writing to create the oval from the table, all fell away when the basic concept came together with time overruling what was reasonable and feasible. Not to mention that when Sam saw it he was over the moon. The detail, or the perfectionism, I would have liked to have put into this particular creation, didn’t matter. Phew!
Sam picked up the chocolate marzipan hand gun, aimed and pretended to fire… is that a boy thing or would most of us be tempted? Makes you wonder. I believe it’s a combination of social conditioning and tactical desire. Mind you after a little playful poses into the mouth it went.
Not only was it a relief that he got that I got him, but the most pleasant reminder and gift to me was, that some of the small stuff really doesn’t matter. I’d been so engrossed in details of precision with court **** and what was and is expected in that arena, it was so nice to let go. More on that on my own site soon. What we tend to overlook as adults, is that when you put in a little effort, your kid usually sees it, they feel it and respond by giving back in some way. And as adults that’s the kid in us also.
Happy Birthday Sam!
